Usage Note
Vedente is used primarily in the phrase non vedente ('visually impaired person'), the polite official term in Italian law and medicine. On its own, vedente means a sighted person — used in contrast with non vedente. It is also used in the sense of 'clairvoyant' (un vedente = 'a seer, fortune-teller') in informal or traditional speech.
