Terrore is stronger than paura (fear) and conveys overwhelming dread. The phrase fare il terrore means to be the terror (of a place or group), as in 'il terrore del quartiere' ('the terror of the neighbourhood'). Terrorismo (terrorism) and terrorista derive from the same root.
