Usage Note
Acquietare means to calm down or appease — acquietare gli animi (to calm tempers). It is slightly more literary than the everyday calmare. The reflexive acquietarsi means to calm oneself or to die down: il vento si è acquietato (the wind died down). Conjugates as a regular first-conjugation verb.
Examples
"Cercò di acquietare i bambini agitati."
Natural Translation
She tried to calm the restless children.
