ebbrezza
exhilaration
noun eb-BRET-tsah Rare
Origin: Latin ebrietas (drunkenness), from ebrius (drunk).
Also means
intoxication
Usage Note
Ebbrezza literally means 'intoxication' (guida in stato di ebbrezza is the legal term for drunk driving) but is very frequently used figuratively for the heady rush of excitement, success, or passion — l'ebbrezza della vittoria (the thrill of victory). The double -bb- is held. Do not confuse with ubriachezza, which is more colloquial for plain drunkenness.
Examples
"Sentiva l'ebbrezza della libertà."
Natural Translation
She felt the exhilaration of freedom.
