Also means
embarrassment
Usage Note
Vergogna is feminine: la vergogna. As an interjection, Vergogna! ('Shame on you!') is common in everyday speech. The verb vergognarsi (to be ashamed) is reflexive: mi vergogno — 'I am ashamed'. Do not confuse with imbarazzo, which leans more toward awkward embarrassment.
Examples
"Provo vergogna a chiedere aiuto."
Natural Translation
I feel ashamed to ask for help.
Literal Translation
I-feel shame to ask help.
