tinta
dye
noun TEEN-tah Rare
Origin: From Latin tincta, past participle of tingere (to dye).
Also means
shade
Usage Note
Tinta means a dye or pigment used to colour something, and by extension a hue or shade of colour. It appears in common phrases: tinta unita (solid colour, without pattern) and tinta per capelli (hair dye). Do not confuse with tinto (dyed, as an adjective) or tinto as in vino tinto which is used in Spanish, not Italian — Italian says vino rosso.
Examples
"Ha scelto una tinta blu per i muri."
Natural Translation
She chose a blue shade for the walls.
