Usage Note
Stamattina is a contraction of questa mattina and is the most common everyday Italian word for 'this morning.' It is purely temporal and does not inflect. The parallel forms are stasera ('this evening'), stanotte ('tonight/last night'), and stamani (a less common variant of stamattina used in some regions). All are fixed adverbs with no plural.
Examples
"Stamattina ho incontrato un vecchio amico."
Natural Translation
This morning I met an old friend.
