Usage Note
Giorno is masculine — il giorno, i giorni. The greeting buongiorno (good morning/good day) is one word. Italian distinguishes giorno (daytime, a calendar day) from giornata (the day as experienced duration — bella giornata!, what a lovely day!). The latter form emphasizes the quality or span of the day.
Examples
"Il giorno più lungo dell'anno è in giugno."
Natural Translation
The longest day of the year is in June.
