pudore

modesty, sense of shame

noun poo-DOH-reh Rare

Origin: From Latin pudor (shame, sense of honour).

Also means

decency, reserve

Usage Note

Pudore expresses a positive, internalized modesty or sense of propriety — the restraint that stops someone from boasting or acting shamelessly. It is not the same as vergogna (shame felt after wrongdoing) or timidezza (shyness). The phrase senza pudore (shamelessly) appears often in journalism criticising brazen behaviour.
