Usage Note
Profittatore (feminine profittatrice) describes someone who exploits a situation for personal gain, often at others' expense — a war profiteer, a price-gouger. It always carries negative moral weight, unlike the neutral chi trae profitto (one who makes a profit). The verb is approfittare di (to take advantage of), which is used far more commonly and is not inherently pejorative.
Examples
"Il profittatore alzava i prezzi durante la crisi."
Natural Translation
The profiteer raised prices during the crisis.
