Usage Note
Profittare is followed by di (profittare di un'occasione = to take advantage of an opportunity). It uses avere as its auxiliary and can carry a neutral or slightly opportunistic tone. It is a false friend trap for English speakers: profittare does not mean 'to profit' in the financial sense — use guadagnare or trarre profitto for that.
