Usage Note
Porgere is an irregular verb (past participle porto) meaning to extend or hand something to someone. It uses avere as its auxiliary. The polite formula porgere i saluti ('to extend greetings') and porgere le condoglianze ('to offer condolences') are stock formal phrases. Do not confuse with portare ('to carry/bring').
Examples
"Le porse la mano con un sorriso."
Natural Translation
He held out his hand to her with a smile.
