easing

noun EE-zing Rare

Origin: English loanword used in Italian financial and economic writing.

Usage Note

Easing is an anglicism that appears almost exclusively in economic and financial contexts in Italian, most often in the fixed phrase quantitative easing (allentamento quantitativo is the Italian equivalent but rarely used). It is invariable and treated as a masculine noun — l'easing monetario. Outside specialist writing, Italians would use allentamento (loosening, easing).
