suscettibile

susceptible

adjective soo-shet-TEE-bee-leh Rare

Also means

touchy; sensitive

Usage Note

Suscettibile is a partial false friend: in Italian it most commonly means 'easily offended' or 'touchy' (non essere così suscettibile!, 'don't be so touchy!'), while English 'susceptible' mainly means 'vulnerable to'. The Italian equivalent of 'susceptible to illness' is suscettibile di ammalarsi or more naturally soggetto a malattie. Invariable for gender; plural suscettibili.

Examples

"È una persona molto suscettibile alle critiche."

Natural Translation

She is a very sensitive person when it comes to criticism.
