Usage Note

Stesse is the feminine plural form of stesso ('same'). It functions both as an adjective (le stesse parole = 'the same words') and as a reinforcing pronoun (lei stessa = 'she herself', loro stesse = 'they themselves', feminine). Note that stesso inflects for gender and number: stesso / stessa / stessi / stesse. It is not to be confused with the imperfect subjunctive stesse of stare.
