silenziosamente

silently; quietly

adverb see-len-tsyoh-zah-MEN-teh Rare

Usage Note

Silenziosamente is formed regularly from the adjective silenzioso + the adverb suffix -mente. Italian adverbs formed this way (from the feminine adjective form + -mente) are often quite long; in practice in silenzio (in silence) is more common in speech. Silenziosamente is preferred in written and literary registers where the single-word form adds rhythm or emphasis.

Examples

"Il gatto si è avvicinato silenziosamente."

Natural Translation

The cat approached silently.
