Usage Note
Semilibertà is a legal-penal term for a regime that allows a prisoner to leave the facility during the day (e.g. for work or study) and return at night — roughly equivalent to 'day release' or 'semi-open detention'. Like all Italian nouns ending in an accented vowel, it is invariable in the plural: le semilibertà. It is a compound of semi- (half) + libertà (freedom).
Examples
"Il detenuto è in regime di semilibertà."
Natural Translation
The prisoner is on day release.
