rinvenire
to find, to discover
verb reen-veh-NEE-reh Rare
Origin: Latin revenire (to come back), reinforced prefix ri- + invenire
Also means
to recover consciousness
Usage Note
Rinvenire has two distinct senses: (1) to find or unearth something (hanno rinvenuto reperti romani) — a somewhat formal alternative to trovare; and (2) to regain consciousness after fainting (il paziente ha rinvenuto). In sense 1 it takes avere; in sense 2 it takes essere. Choosing the wrong auxiliary is a common error.
Examples
