Ringraziare takes a direct object for the person thanked, so you say ti ringrazio ('I thank you'), not with a preposition. To say what you thank someone for, use per: ti ringrazio per l'aiuto. The reflexive-sounding ringraziando il cielo means 'thank goodness'.
