Usage Note

Proprio means 'one's own' as a possessive determiner (il proprio lavoro) and, very commonly, 'really/exactly' as an emphatic adverb (proprio così! = 'exactly!'). The adverb is invariable; the determiner agrees in gender and number. Non proprio softens to 'not quite'.
