pianificare

to plan; to schedule

verb pyah-nee-fee-KAH-reh Rare

Origin: From piano (plan) + -ficare (from Latin -ficare, to make/do); a modern formation.

Usage Note

Pianificare uses the auxiliary avere in compound tenses: ho pianificato (I have planned). It is a regular -are verb conjugating like comunicare (with a -ch- in forms before -i/-e to keep the hard 'k' sound: pianifichi, pianifichiamo). More formal than programmare or organizzare.

Examples

"Dobbiamo pianificare la nostra vacanza in anticipo."

Natural Translation

We need to plan our holiday in advance.
