Usage Note
Pannocchia refers to the whole ear of corn (maize) on or off the cob. Pannocchia di granoturco is the full technical phrase, but pannocchia alone is universally understood. In parts of Italy the word can also refer to the flower-head of other grasses. The plural pannocchie is regular.
