panorama

panorama, view

noun pah-noh-RAH-mah Less Common

Origin: Greek pan, 'all' + horama, 'view'

Also means

overview, landscape (figurative)

Usage Note

Panorama ends in -a but is grammatically masculine — il panorama, plural i panorami — like other Greek -ma words (il problema, il poema, il tema). It is used both for a physical view from a high point and figuratively (il panorama politico = 'the political landscape'). The adjective is panoramico (una strada panoramica = 'a scenic road').
