Osservare is a regular -are verb with a double sense: visual observation (osservare le stelle, 'to observe the stars') and verbal comment (ha osservato che era tardi, 'she remarked it was late'). The noun osservazione ('observation, remark') is formed regularly. In scientific Italian osservare is the standard term for empirical observation.
