mica

not at all

adverb MEE-kah Rare

Also means

not even

Usage Note

Mica is a colloquial, emphatic negation typical of northern and central Italian speech. It reinforces a negative without adding a second non: non è mica stupido (he's not stupid at all). In questions it softens a request or expresses mild surprise: sei mica stanco? (you're not tired, are you?). It is informal and largely absent from formal writing.

Examples

"Non è mica facile come sembra."

Natural Translation

It's not at all as easy as it seems.

Literal Translation

Not is not-at-all easy as it-seems.
