leasing
leasing; hire purchase
noun LEE-zing Rare
Origin: English loanword from 'to lease', from Old French 'laissier' (to let)
Usage Note
Leasing is an invariable masculine noun in Italian — il leasing, i leasing — borrowed directly from English and used unchanged in financial and commercial contexts. Italian law distinguishes leasing finanziario (finance lease, where the lessee may purchase the asset at the end) from leasing operativo (operating lease). Colloquially, Italians also say prendere in leasing ('to take on lease').
Examples
"Ha acquistato la macchina con un contratto di leasing."
Natural Translation
He bought the car with a leasing contract.
