Usage Note
Infermiere is the masculine form; the feminine is infermiera. Both refer to a registered nurse rather than a doctor. In informal speech Italians sometimes use infermiere as a gender-neutral default when referring to nursing staff collectively, but careful speakers use the appropriate form.
Examples
"L'infermiere mi ha fatto un'iniezione."
Natural Translation
The nurse gave me an injection.
Literal Translation
The nurse to-me has made an injection.
