incamminare

to set out

verb een-kahm-mee-NAH-reh Rare

Also means

to start on one's way

Usage Note

Incamminare is most often used reflexively as incamminarsi (to set off, to head towards): si sono incamminati verso il villaggio. The compound tense uses essere in the reflexive form. The non-reflexive transitive use (to guide someone along a path) is more literary.

Examples

"Ci siamo incamminati verso la montagna."

Natural Translation

We set off towards the mountain.

Literal Translation

We-are set-out towards the mountain.
