Ferita refers to a wound or physical injury — una ferita profonda (a deep wound), una ferita da arma da fuoco (a gunshot wound). It is also used figuratively: una ferita emotiva (an emotional wound). The adjective/noun ferito/ferita (wounded person, casualty) is common in news reports: ci sono tre feriti = there are three casualties. Do not confuse with danno (damage) or dolore (pain).
