Egemonia denotes political, cultural, or ideological dominance of one group over others. It entered Italian intellectual discourse prominently through Antonio Gramsci's concept of egemonia culturale (cultural hegemony). The g before e is soft ('j'): eh-jeh-moh-NEE-ah. The adjective is egemonico.
