Usage Note

Complimenti is almost always used in the plural and functions as an interjection: Complimenti! means 'Congratulations!' or 'Well done!' The singular complimento is masculine. Fare i complimenti also means to be overly polite or stand on ceremony, so non fare complimenti means 'don't be shy, help yourself'.
