Usage Note
Cogliere means to pick fruit or flowers, but also to seize or grasp, as in cogliere l'occasione (to seize the chance) and cogliere nel segno (to hit the mark). It is irregular: the past participle is colto, which is also the adjective for 'cultured'. Note the soft -gli- sound.
