Usage Note

Accostare takes avere as auxiliary. It often describes physically placing something close to another object — accostare la sedia al tavolo (to pull the chair up to the table) — or docking a boat. The reflexive accostarsi means to draw near or to approach someone. It also means to leave a door ajar (accostare la porta).
