boom
boom; sudden surge
noun boom Less Common
Origin: English boom (sudden increase)
Usage Note
Boom is an anglicism borrowed into Italian and is invariable — the plural is also boom: i boom economici (economic booms). It is always masculine: il boom. Most commonly heard in il boom economico (the economic miracle/boom), referring specifically to Italy's rapid growth in the 1950s–60s. In speech it may also denote a loud bang, but scoppio is more natural for that.
Examples
"Gli anni '60 furono il periodo del boom economico."
Natural Translation
The 1960s were the period of the economic boom.
Literal Translation
The years '60 were the period of-the boom economic.
