Usage Note
Bimbo is a warm, affectionate word for a young child, used widely in northern and central Italy; the feminine is bimba. English speakers must beware: in English 'bimbo' is a pejorative, but in Italian it is entirely neutral and endearing — never insulting. Bambino is the more widely understood synonym.
