Augurio is used chiefly in the plural auguri as a multi-purpose good-wishes phrase — Tanti auguri! serves for birthdays, holidays, and congratulations alike. The singular is rarer and tends to carry the older sense of 'omen' or 'wish.' Auguri di buon anno means 'New Year's wishes.'
