Ambientare most commonly means to set a film, novel, or play in a particular place or era — il film è ambientato a Roma means 'the film is set in Rome'. Reflexively, ambientarsi means to settle into or get used to a new environment, as in mi sto ambientando al nuovo lavoro (I'm settling into the new job).
