Usage Note

Voltura is a bureaucratic term for the transfer of a contract or utility meter (gas, electricity, water) into a new owner's or tenant's name. It is used almost exclusively in administrative and legal contexts; a learner will encounter it when dealing with Italian property transactions. The related verb is volturare.
