uscire
to go out
verb oo-SHEE-reh Common
Origin: Latin exire (to go out), via Vulgar Latin
Also means
to exit, to come out
Usage Note
Uscire is an irregular verb and crucially uses essere as its auxiliary in compound tenses: sono uscito/a ('I went out'), not ho uscito. This is important for agreement: a woman says sono uscita. It also means to leave a relationship or situation: uscire dalla crisi ('to get out of the crisis'). The noun uscita means 'exit' or 'outing'.
Examples
"Usciamo insieme stasera?"
Natural Translation
Shall we go out together tonight?
Literal Translation
We-go-out together tonight?
