Terza is the feminine form of the ordinal terzo (third) — used when the noun it modifies is feminine: la terza volta (the third time), la terza classe (third class/grade). As a standalone noun, la terza can refer to third gear in a car or the third year of a school cycle. Italian ordinals agree in gender and number with their noun.
