Usage Note

Svelare literally means to remove a veil (velo) and thus 'to reveal' or 'to disclose.' It takes avere as auxiliary. The reflexive svelarsi means 'to reveal oneself' or 'to turn out to be.' It is more formal than rivelare and common in journalism.
