Supposto is the past participle of supporre used as an adjective, meaning assumed or alleged without proof: il supposto colpevole (the alleged culprit). It is more formal than presunto, which carries a stronger legal flavour (as in presunto innocente). Forms: supposta (f sg), supposti (m pl).
