Origin: From Latin 'supponere' (to place under, to substitute).

to assume

Usage Note

Supporre is an irregular verb — it follows porre in conjugation (suppongo, supponi, suppone). It uses the auxiliary avere in compound tenses. Supposto is its past participle. It is slightly more formal than pensare or immaginare; suppongo di sì means 'I suppose so'.

Examples

"Suppongo che tu abbia ragione."
