to smash
Usage Note
Schiantare describes a violent impact or crash — schiantarsi contro un muro ('to smash into a wall'). The reflexive schiantarsi is very common for vehicle crashes. Colloquially, mi schianto can mean 'I'm exhausted/done.' It takes avere in the transitive and essere in the reflexive.
Examples
"L'auto si è schiantata contro il guardrail."
Natural Translation
The car crashed into the guardrail.
