scalzo
barefoot
adjective SKAHL-tsoh Rare
Origin: From Latin 'excalceatus' (having removed one's shoes).
Usage Note
Scalzo agrees in gender and number: scalzo (m sg), scalza (f sg), scalzi (m pl), scalze (f pl). It is used as a predicate (era scalzo — he was barefoot) or attributively (i piedi scalzi — bare feet). The phrase andare scalzo (to go barefoot) is very common. Do not confuse with calzo (a wedge or heel-piece), which is unrelated in everyday use.
Examples
"Camminava scalzo sulla spiaggia."
Natural Translation
He was walking barefoot on the beach.
