Sbattere has a range of physical meanings: to slam a door (sbattere la porta), to beat eggs (sbattere le uova), or to knock something against a surface. In colloquial Italian sbattere also expresses not caring — me ne sbatto means 'I don't give a damn'. It takes avere as auxiliary. The double 't' means both are held in pronunciation.
