Usage Note

Sapienza refers to deep, accumulated wisdom rather than mere intelligence (intelligenza) or knowledge (conoscenza). It carries a slightly elevated or literary register. La Sapienza is also the name of Rome's most famous university, formally Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza. The adjective is sapiente.
