Usage Note
Rigurgito literally means a backflow or regurgitation of liquid, as in rigurgito gastrico ('gastric reflux'). Figuratively it means a resurgence of something unpleasant: un rigurgito di violenza ('an outbreak of violence') or un rigurgito fascista ('a resurgence of fascism'). The figurative use is very common in Italian journalism.
