eligible for re-election
Usage Note
Rieleggibile describes an officeholder who may legally stand for re-election. Its opposite, non rieleggibile, marks a term-limited position. The word is formed from ri- (again) + eleggibile (eligible to be elected). Italian constitutional texts use it to define term limits for the President of the Republic and other offices.
Examples
"Il presidente non è rieleggibile per un secondo mandato."
Natural Translation
The president is not eligible for re-election to a second term.
