Usage Note

Rianimazione covers both the medical act of resuscitation (CPR) and the hospital intensive care unit (ICU), officially called terapia intensiva but colloquially reparto di rianimazione. The verb is rianimare — which can also mean 'to revive' in a figurative sense (la pioggia ha rianimato il giardino).
